| RoadBLOCK (This software has been replaced by E-MAPS) RoadBLOCK is based on an application orginally developed in response to the DC
Area Sniper investigation. The purpose of the software was to provide the Police with the
following functions:
- Allow the user to enter an address
or a road intersection and have the software quickly map the area.
- Provide the user with the location
of schools, shopping centers, parks, and large facilities.
- Allow the police to enter a
perimeter distance around an event.
- The software would compute the
minimum number of road closures which would "seal off" the area.
- Provide a map displaying the most
likely exit routes.
- Rank road closures in order of
importance, so as respondents arrive, most critical closures can be addressed first.
- Allow the user to manually place
road blocks and have the software compute the remaining required closures.
RoadBLOCK is self contained and
does not require any additional mapping software or data. Users with existing GIS data can
substitute in house data in the software. It is designed to run in field conditions on
minimally configured Laptop or desktop systems running any version of Microsoft Windows
Operating System.
