E-MAPS
Multi-Agency Coordination and Collaboration
E-MAPS provides the user with the ability to share event
information among multiple agencies. Each group of agencies can setup sharing
through a predefined "Station". Each station is a user defined FTP site
located on the world wide web or on an internal network. Stations can be configured
as send only, receive only or send and receive. At prespecified intervals, E-MAPS
compresses and encrypts the content of its events tables and uploads the information to
the configured stations. At the same time the software also downloads any
information placed on the server by other E-MAPS users. The Events downloaded from
various stations is stored in the "External Agencies" tab and are displayed with
gray symbology.

The broadcasting and sharing features of the software can
also be used to allow for collaboration between multiple agencies. For example, the
EOC office may be responding to a chemical spill. The response requires a plume
model to be created in order for the population affected to be identified. However,
the EOC individual in charge does not have sufficient experience with the development of a
Plume model. An individual at the Department of Environment however is familiar with
the plume modeling process. Using the broadcasting feature, the EOC individual can
enter the location of the incident so that the individual at the Department of Environment
can run the plume and forward the results back to the EOC office for additional
processing.
E-MAPS Also provides the ability to automatically email
Emergency Event information to various individuals on a mailing list. The following
menu is used to allow the user to select the type of information which can be emailed.

As can be seen, options are provided for
emailing a map in JPEG format, ESRI Shape Files, Linked documents or a complete Archive of
the Emergency Scenario. |
