New in autoBound Version 3.3:

Digital Engineering Corporation (DEC) has released autoBound
version 3.3 for Arcview GIS version 3.X. The following is a brief list of some of
the new features in autoBound version 3.3.
General
- The
autoBound manual has been rewritten to include more step-by-step instructions.
- The
CD now includes an extensions directory containing other useful ArcView tools and programs
including:
o Cartogram
Extension Creates Cartogram Maps based
o Compactness
Extension Computes measurements of compactness and Complexity.
o Generalize
Reduces the number of Vertices in a polygon
o Hywlabel
Creates road labels and highway shields
o Mergetheme
Enables the merging of shape files. Used
for creating statewide shape files from county data.
o Split
Tool for splitting polygons or polylines using screen graphics.
o Thiessen
Creates Thiessen polygons from point files.
o Zmapper
Provides additional tools used for creating map layouts
- Additional
samples have been included in the ABDemo directory.
AutoBound
Workspace Manager
- The
workspace manager can now be used to Checkout plans from remote servers.
- Workspace
manager now recognizes state-wide files stored in the STATEWIDE directory
- The
use of a Master population/value table is now supported. The Master table can be used to populate
additional fields into the population/value table.
- If
polygon and/or value/population link field names are longer than 7 characters long, the
workspace manger now provides that ability to automatically create a copy of the field
with at 7 character field name.
- Field
data can now be previewed inside the workspace manger.
AutoBound
redistricting extension
- When a new workspace is created autoBound will now automatically complete
the theme setup process inside ArcView.
- The
autoBound menu has been divided into five distinct menu dropdowns.
- Value/Population
Table Labels can now be automatically placed for up to two fields inside each polygon
- Buffer
distance used for selection can now have three settings.
Negative indicating polygons must be completely inside, Zero indicating polygons must coinside and a
number greater than zero used for the calculation of the actual buffer distance.
- Users
can now select fields other than the autoBound created district numbers for display in the
legend and the Target District Number.
- Users
can now display redistricting boundaries using an outline as well as the fill color.
- A
new database administration tool has been added to allow modification of table structures.
- A
new Disaggregation tool has been added to allow distribution of data from larger to
smaller polygons.
- Summarize
points to polygons has been enhanced to allow breakdown of points into user defined
groupings.
- A
new tool has been added to allow the creation of a highest level summary. (e.g. Plan A is made up of 5 Counties, 3 VTDs and
100 Blocks)
- A
compare plan tool has been added
- Import
Assignment File has been enhanced to allow conflict resolution if overlapping plans are
imported.
- The
Secondary View thematic map has been enhanced to also act as an Index Map.
- The
Secondary View thematic map can now display any layers available in ArcView. Additionally, users can select Use Existing
Configuration to avoid creating additional shape files if a copy of the
redistricting layer has already been exported for use in the thematic view.
- The
autoBound tools menu now includes a tool for updating the district outline boundaries.
- The
performance on polygon grouping and locking features has been improved.
- When
district outlines are displayed, a number on the right hand side of the autoBound menu
indicates when discontiguous districts are created.
- The
Active Matrix popup menu has been reorganized for more efficient access.
- A
new Track Target option has been added to automatically scroll the spread sheet to the
currently selected target district.
- A new Update Points option has been added to update the point file with the
columns in the Active Matrix.
